Tuesday, October 28th, 2014 By

According to the Maryland Department of Transportation, traffic accidents are the number-one killer of people between the ages of 4 and 34. These accidents typically fall under the traditional categories of vehicle, motorcycle, bicycle and pedestrian, but the statistics do not account for certain types of vehicle accidents, called “freak” accidents.

We are a team of respected Baltimore personal-injury lawyers, and we have recovered more than $75 million for clients. To schedule a consultation, call us today at 301-495-3131.

Woman in Car Killed by Falling Tree
CBS Baltimore reports that a woman died when a falling tree struck her car. The accident happened while the woman, 52-year-old Rebecca Lowery, was driving on Falls Road in Baltimore. Falls Road is a main thoroughfare and is the scene of many accidents throughout the year.
According to investigators, the accident happened shortly after 9 a.m. on Wednesday, when the large tree fell on the victim’s Toyota FJ Cruiser. Eye witnesses say they saw the tree begin to fall, but the driver of the car appeared unaware of the situation. The tree smashed into the roof of the vehicle, causing significant damage. Investigators believe the woman died instantly.
The reason why the tree fell is under investigation; however, investigators believe the wet weather may have played a role. Local residents claim that falling trees and branches have been ongoing concerns in the area.

Helicopter-Plane Crash Kills Three, Injures Two
The Baltimore Sun reports that three people died and two others seriously injured in a crash between a helicopter and a plane. The crash occurred mid-air at Frederick Municipal Airport.
Officials say the three dead were all aboard the helicopter when the crash occurred. The passengers of the light aircraft suffered serious injuries, and medical responders transported them to the trauma center at Meritus Health hospital in Hagerstown. The hospital has since released the two men.

The accident is under investigation by the Federal Aviation Administration. Investigators believe that the plane was coming in for landing at the airport at approximately 3:40 p.m. when it collided with a helicopter that was undergoing a training exercise. Investigators found the wreckages of the two aircrafts in close proximity to each other, less than one mile from the airport.

These stories highlight the fact that accidents can happen anywhere, at any time. If an accident is the result of one party’s negligence, victims may be entitled to compensation for medical bills and lost wages.
