Motor-vehicle crashes are major concerns for Maryland residents. According to data from the Maryland Motor Vehicle Administration, car crashes are the number-one killers of people between the ages of 4 and 34.
Each year across the state of Maryland, more people die in car crashes than by homicides. As such, officials are urging drivers to be more cautious. In spite of new awareness campaigns and a crackdown from law enforcement, there is still an average of 580 fatal crashes each year, along with more than 36,000 injury accidents.

21-Year-Old Man Dies in Maryland Crash
WUSA9 reports that a 21-year-old man died in a single-vehicle car accident in Maryland. Police say the driver, Annal Upadhyaya, died on the scene from his injuries.
The crash happened in Aspen Hill early on a Saturday evening. A local police officer noticed an unoccupied vehicle in the emergency lane in front of a liquor store. He stopped behind the vehicle and requested identification from the driver when he returned. It was then that the officer noticed the driver was on a suspended license, and he called a tow truck to remove the car.
As the tow truck arrived the man returned, indicating he intended to retrieve his mobile phone, but instead, he drove off at a high speed. The police officer gave chase but was unable to keep up. Officers later found the car on its side with the driver unconscious on the sidewalk.
The vehicle overturned for unknown reasons and hit a sign pole, which is where it came to a stop. The accident remains under investigation.

Police say the car drove over the left side of the onramp for Route 50, and it fell into a ravine in the early hours of the morning. One woman sustained life-threatening injuries, and emergency workers transported her to a local hospital. The crash closed all eastbound lanes for a number of hours.
